I'm not scared

Last month, my book club read Niccolo Ammaniti's I'm Not Scared. Some of us were underwhelmed, others actively disliked it, finding it disturbingly dark. There were things about it that I liked, the scorched Italian countryside for one, but I felt something was lacking. We thought it may have been a poor translation from the original Italian.

This evening we watched the film and all concluded that this is one of those very rare cases where the film is better than the book. The film was quite lovely, and so was the Crust pizza we ate! When I got home, I hugged Toby for an extra long time, realising that he is ten years old and in grade five, just like Michele and Filippo in the film.

In other news, I got the job I was interviewed for last week. Come mid-January, I am moving on. It will be very sad the leave the library, though I will still work with Wagga Library, as well as all the other branch libraries in the Riverina Regional Library, as Outreach and Promotions Co-ordinator.

  1. Congratulations! I had NO DOUBT you would get the job - well done!

I haven't read "I'm not scared", but I did like the film, though I WAS scared! I loved the scenery.... I must ask you sometime about the ending, maybe I wasn't paying enough attention.... there is a question in my mind about exactly what happened.
