Not winter

As Bethany and I sit in the car to keep warm while Toby is at soccer practice, I realise that there will come a time, in the not too distant future, when we will need to leave the car on so the heater will work. For now, these leaves show me that autumn is hanging on.

I'm just having a break, it's right back to the marking now. I am pretending that this morning's post happened last night. I blog every day, I wouldn't have forgotten.

Marking again

I know I'd enjoy it more if I didn't have so many other things to do! This is what I am looking at and will continue to look at until the end of the long weekend.

Because I can't do a post without a picture....

I believe I was trying to capture the menacingly dark sky. It didn't come across that way at all and now I notice that, instead, I caught Bethany walking to the bus stop in such a way as to give a hint of her personality.

I have been very much enjoying my friend Jane's new blog. I made the cheese and bacon muffins today and they were a big hit. I even get a mention in the post about Nigella's chocolate pavlova. I think the blog is such a good idea and I keep thinking of food that I make and then rejecting it for inclusion on Jane's blog because it isn't cheap! I think I have expensive taste in food.

I am also reading Love2Read. Actually, I also contribute to it because I am in the NSW Readers Advisory Working Group. We are blogging every day in June so I am writing five posts over this month. I don't do a lot of tweeting for myself (my work facebook goes straight to Twitter so I tweet a bit for the library) but this blog is great for getting ideas about what to read next and the working group is made up of some seriously awesome librarians so it is a very good read!

More pedantry

I pulled this note out of Toby's bag this morning. This is so bad, don't you think? Is it so very hard, before printing something and sending it to all year five parents, to get someone else to look at it? Just the heading?

I think it makes me so mad because it comes from the school, if only from parents, not the teachers (I would have to take action if a teacher was behind it). Thankfully, the two children in the room when I read it, knew at once what was wrong with it. I do find it odd, though, that it should upset me while the form I received yesterday just made me smile indulgently.

Sari organises the Muddi markets and what will be the Muddi empire (slight exaggeration perhaps?). Maybe she wasn't sure if it ought to be 'stockist' or 'stockest' so decided to put both the i and the e in. The result , of course, is an application form to become something no woman wants to be. I can accept that I won't be the tallest or leanest. I am over the fact that willowy is not an adjective that applies to me, but I do not want to be the stockiest, thank-you very much.

Somehow, Sari's larger-than-life personality and the fact that she talks even more than I do, makes her creative spelling and, indeed, written language quirks, seem endearing. And we are going to apply anyway.

Muddy weekend

Yes, the perfect weather for Muddi markets is rainy. There were lots of people there and we were kept very busy. The food on offer was pretty much all sweet so I went from 7.45 until 2.15 on two cups of coffee. I really must get in the habit of packing myself some snacks as morning tea always means sugar!

Now that the manic Muddi weekend is over I just have my 10 hour work day tomorrow and 25 assignments to mark. Back into it!

Reading update: I am loving Villette (Charlotte Bronte), though it takes a good long while to read a book with 600 pages of tiny print. Lots of people online have said they loved it more than Jane Eyre. I'm not sure about that, I love Jane Eyre, but I'll reserve my final judgement until I reach the end. I got very annoyed with the Kobo (e-reader, which has a touch screen that became unresponsive - imagine a book where you can't turn the page!) so am having a break from Of Human Bondage until I finish Villette. My book club book is Mao's Last Dancer, which I read years ago. I'll have to read it again before we meet because my recollection of it is pretty vague. Reviews of the movie were dismal so we are watching Snow Flower and the Secret Fan on Friday night instead. I do love our movie nights - takeaway dinner, the library to ourselves and the film on the big screen in the children's area with lovely book club friends. I'll try to remember to take pictures this time!

Ready to go

There are three of us in Paper Kitchen. If you had to have only one of us there to set up for a market, you wouldn't choose me! Liz and Megan are at convention so I am so pleased that Jeannie was able to help me set up.

There were no lights on during set up so please excuse the dark photos.

We're doing demonstrations for the first time at Muddi tomorrow. Jeannie and I are on our own until Liz and Megan get back from Canberra.

It's a miracle!

Milo walked into a pole the other day while we were out walking. I had been deluding myself about his ability to see through his wooly coat. I realise that if I can't see his eyes, he probably can't see very well.

It's so cold so I didn't want him to be shorn. His thick, wooly coat cannot be trimmed, it's either all off or nothing. So I just asked for his eyes to be rescued.

The hairdo gives him such a mournful expression!
